Trinity (Rangiora) History
Methodism in Rangiora has deep roots dating back to 1859, when the United Free Methodists established their presence in Victoria Street. Concurrently, the Wesleyan Methodists founded their own congregation in 1862, initially worshiping in Ashley Street. In 1875, the Wesleyans moved to the current King Street site, a location that has served as the heart of the Trinity community for nearly 150 years. The two Rangiora congregations united in 1896, mirroring national denominational amalgamations. The landmark church building that stands today was opened in 1952, continuing a legacy of faithful service and architectural beauty that defines Trinity Rangiora.
Woodend History
The Woodend congregation traces its Wesleyan beginnings back to 1859, a pivotal year for Methodism in North Canterbury. For generations, this community has thrived through immense social change, remaining a steadfast source of faith and support. The current church building, opened in 1910, serves as a beautiful testament to the enduring presence of the parish. Today, Woodend continues to offer inclusive worship and outreach, bridging the gap between its storied past and a vibrant future within our shared parish.
